Wonderful hospitality

Evi and Thanasis are the ideal hosts: reserved, but always there when needed. Occasionally, guests are treated to little treats from Evi's kitchen. The location of the semi-detached house in a park-sized garden cannot be topped - with a view of Mount Olympus at sunset. The beach is pebbly but exclusive. The village of Nea Skioni is only a few minutes' drive away and has all the necessary shops and good restaurants. Thanasis has a relevant list ready ...
The house is ideal for a family with children, two couples have to agree who gets the bigger bedroom and who gets the bathroom on the floor with the bedrooms.
Definitely recommended!

Beautiful view, great area and right by the sea
The studios are lovingly furnished with everything you need
A car is an advantage if you want to visit the beautiful beaches and small towns of Kassandra.

Sustainability is a priority and you feel completely at ease.
The warmth of the hosts and their animal housemates (dogs and cats) who always greeted us happily after meals, we found wonderful, even as non-pet owners.

The absolute highlight was the dinner. (Surprise vegetarian / vegan meal) We quickly changed our plan to eat in Greek tavernas in the evening and we like to eat meat.
I can't remember ever having experienced such good cuisine on holiday. Our respect to Sabine, who conjured this up every evening on her own.

We will be back!

Which sights are there in Chalkidiki?

Following the footsteps of ancient and Aristotelian times

Southeast of Olymbiada on the east coast of Chalkidiki lie the excavations of the ancient city of Stageira. The philosopher Aristotle was born here in Stageira in 383 BC. Even more impressive are the remains of ancient Olynth, which was destroyed in 348 BC. Here you can admire the foundations of houses and villas, remains of the water supply, city fortifications, public squares, oil mills, and necropolises. Another attraction near your vacation rental or other holiday accommodation is the Temple of Ammon Zeus in Kallithea. The temple was uncovered in the 1970s and dates back to the 4th to 3rd centuries BC. You can travel from antiquity to our time with a visit to the mountain village of Parthenonas on the Sithonia peninsula. The village sits at over 300 meters above sea level. Parthenonas was once abandoned, but today, picturesque restored stone houses and villas with sea views across the Toroneos Gulf to Kassandra are attracting visitors. There are a few private apartments, small taverns, and cozy cafés. Perfect for a relaxing and diverse trip!

What do you need to experience in Chalkidiki?

Close to heaven

The Athos peninsula and monk's republic, with its namesake Holy Mountain, is a legendary landmass. The Holy Mountain Athos is an autonomous monk's republic under the sovereignty of Greece. The territory covers 336 km² and extends to the eastern finger of Chalkidiki. Women are strictly forbidden from entering. Tourists are also not permitted entry. However, male travelers interested in religion and cultural history can enter Athos as pilgrims. A highlight for women is a visit to the Meteora monasteries near the town of Kalambaka. The 24 monasteries and hermitages tower on mountain peaks and nestle against steep cliffs. The first monasteries were established in the 11th century. Six of them are still inhabited and accessible to travelers. Others are so difficult to reach that they have been abandoned by the hermits. Unfortunately, some of the complexes are falling into disrepair. Keep in mind the dress code when visiting: Men should wear long pants and women long dresses, with shoulders covered.

The kilometers of beautiful beaches of Kassandra, especially Sani Beach, are particularly family-friendly, enchanting both children and adults alike. The resort town of Nikiti also offers stunning sandy shores. In the vicinity of the beach, there are numerous holiday homes and vacation rentals for families to enjoy, making it perfect for beach vacationers. Many landlords have their own pets, so some accommodations are suitable for a vacation with a dog. The Chalkidiki mountain landscapes, such as the Cholomondas Mountains, offer wonderful hiking areas with extensive trail networks. Cholomondas is a Greek mountain range in the Central Macedonia region that rises to 1,165 meters. Perfect for hiking! Here, both four- and two-legged friends will have a great time. Greek restaurant menus often feature a section called "cooked in oil." However, don't be put off by this, as the dishes, whether meat or vegetables, are lighter than this category suggests. Near your budget vacation rental or beach house, for example in Sarti, there are usually several restaurants and simple taverns. The cuisine of Macedonia and Halkidiki is influenced by Asia Minor and Eastern Europe. Most restaurants in Greece are casual and uncomplicated. Don't be surprised if, after eating, empty plates, bowls, and bottles remain on the table. Greeks like to see how generously they've eaten. If you prefer to cook in your accommodation, you will find a wide selection of fruit and vegetables, sausages and cheese, and meat and fish at local markets. Regional specialties include mussels, octopus (often grilled or as a salad), and snails. Naturally, there is also gyros meat on a spit everywhere. Don't miss out on the much-celebrated Greek wine: Hearty red and white wines made from autochthonous grapes offer a welcome change from the globally dominant grape varieties during your vacation. Retsina, made with the resin of the Aleppo pine, is something special and can be an acquired taste. As a conclusion to a meal (and often as a companion), an ouzo with water should not be missing.

What is a must-see in Chalkidiki?

The legacy of ancient Greeks and modern times

A visit to the Archaeological Museum of Chalkidiki in Polígyros (also spelled Polygyros) is worthwhile, where you can admire artifacts from excavations throughout the region. For those craving contemporary art after exploring archaeological sites, Thessaloniki is the place to be. The State Museum of Contemporary Art (SMCA) displays works of Russian avant-garde art and is housed in a former monastery. The focus of the Municipal Art Gallery, located in an Art Nouveau building, is also on Classical Modernism. Here you will find works by Dalí, Lichtenstein, and other international artists. An icon collection provides a contrast. The Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, among others, features works by Beuys, Warhol, and Saint Phalle. Explore the ancient sites and legendary hills in the southern part of the region.

How do I come to Chalkidiki?

The easiest way to get to Chalkidiki (also spelled Halkidiki), part of Macedonia, is by plane to Thessaloniki Airport, the second largest city in Greece after Athens. The airport is located about 30 minutes outside the city. Public buses run twice an hour on this route. You can get to your vacation rental or beach house more comfortably by renting a car at the airport, especially if you plan to explore the Chalkidiki peninsula and its three fingers. Two main routes lead from Thessaloniki through Chalkidiki. One route goes through the interior of the peninsula, while the second route follows the coast to Nea Moudania and Nea Kallikratia. From Nea Moudania, one road continues to Kassandra and another along the north coast of the Toroneos Gulf to Nikiti and Agios Nikolaos on the Sithonia finger. Regular public buses run throughout Chalkidiki to all major towns. The dream journey in the sun, with kilometers of beautiful sandy beach, can begin!
